Rubber lined pipe refers to a type of piping system where the interior surface of the pipe is lined with a layer of rubber. The rubber lining acts as a protective barrier between the pipe material and the fluid being transported, providing resistance to corrosion, abrasion, and chemical attack.
The rubber lining is typically applied through a vulcanization process, where sheets or strips of rubber are bonded to the inside of the pipe. The rubber used for lining pipes is often natural rubber or synthetic rubber compounds, such as neoprene, EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), or nitrile rubber.
Some of the key benefits of using rubber lined pipes include:
1. Corrosion resistance: The rubber lining acts as a protective barrier against corrosive substances, extending the life of the pipe and reducing maintenance requirements.
2. Abrasion resistance: Rubber linings provide excellent resistance to abrasive materials, making them suitable for transporting slurries or materials with high particle content.
3. Chemical resistance: Depending on the rubber compound used, rubber lined pipes can offer resistance to a wide range of chemicals and fluids.
4. Noise and vibration reduction: Rubber linings can help dampen noise and reduce vibrations in the piping system, resulting in quieter operation and reduced stress on the system.
5. Flexibility: Rubber lined pipes offer some degree of flexibility, which can be beneficial in applications where thermal expansion or movement is expected.
6. Easy maintenance: Rubber linings are relatively easy to repair or replace if damaged, which can minimize downtime and maintenance costs.
PTFE lined pipes are commonly used in industries where the transportation of corrosive or aggressive chemicals is required. They are widely used in chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, food processing, and other industrial applications.
The PTFE lining provides excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including acids, alkalis, solvents, and corrosive gases.
The benefits of using PTFE lined pipes include:
1. Chemical resistance: PTFE has exceptional resistance to a broad range of chemicals, making it suitable for transporting corrosive fluids.
2. Temperature tolerance: PTFE can withstand high temperatures, typically ranging from -20°C to 260°C (-4°F to 500°F), depending on the specific grade and lining thickness.
3. Non-stick properties: PTFE has a low coefficient of friction, resulting in a smooth and non-stick surface that prevents material buildup and reduces pressure drop.
4. Corrosion resistance: The PTFE lining protects the pipe material from corrosion, extending the lifespan of the piping system.
5. Easy maintenance: The non-stick surface of PTFE makes the pipes easy to clean and maintain.
